Altar Servers
Altar servers assist with various duties during the liturgy associated with the
Mass, weddings, funerals, Holy Hours, Holy Week services and other special
ceremonies. Both boys and girls are eligible to be trained as altar servers once
they reach Grade 4. If interested, please contact the rectory office.
Readers
Readers are responsible for reading Scripture from the ambo at Sunday Mass. To
ensure that the reading of Scripture is meaningful to the entire congregation,
the reader should be able to read well, with a loud, clear voice, and proper
diction. Prayerful preparation prior to Scripture reading is also required. Readers are usually assigned to read Scripture every four to six weeks and
usually at the mass of their choice. Readers can also make themselves available
to read at weekday masses. If interested, please contact the rectory office.
Training will be provided.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are trained by the pastor and commissioned
to distribute Holy Communion at Masses when an insufficient number of ordained
priests/deacons are available to serve the congregation present. They also
bring Holy Communion to parishioners who are homebound or convalescing in local
hospitals. In addition to serving our parish family, one of four teams of
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion leads a Eucharistic service at the Jersey
Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Industrial Way, Eatontown, every
Sunday morning.
Sacristans
The responsibilities of the sacristan focus on preparation for church services.
This includes, opening the church one-hour before a service, preparing the altar
and vestments, ensuring that there are an appropriate number of hosts in the
tabernacle and that the correct books are available for the reader. The
sacristan is also responsible for ensuring that the AC/heat is turned on prior
to mass and set for a comfortable temperature. If you are interested in serving
as a sacristan, please contact the rectory office.
Ministers of Hospitality
GREETERS are parishioners who serve as ministers of hospitality. Their
cheerful and personal greeting of parishioners and visitors at the church doors
on Sunday helps to make each person feel welcome and accepted as a valued member
of our parish community. Greeters minister at the Mass they usually attend on
Sunday. If interested, please call the rectory office.
USHERS are greeters with additional responsibilities. Some of these
duties include: taking up the collection at the offertory of the Mass, assisting
people in finding a seat during crowded services, assisting people as needed,
and distributing the weekly bulletin at the end of Mass. Ushers are usually
assigned to the Sunday Mass that they attend each week. If interested, please
contact the rectory office.
